Secretary of War ordered his return to his company as 4th Sgt. Wounded 22 Jun 1864, battle of Petersburg, VA. Paroled 24 May 1865, Columbus, MS.

 

OLIVE, Mrs. Laura E. [undated pension application]
Resides Rt. 1, Hines, AL. Aged 53 years 11 months, 27 days.
She has lived in Alabama all her life, and has never lived anywhere else. Her husband enlisted in the Confederacy in the fall of 1863, as a Pvt., in Co B, Capt. Reynolds, Col. Biffle, 9thTennessee, and served until the spring of 1865. He was taken prisoner, but she did not know the circumstances of his release or if he was ever wounded. He left the service when his company was disbanded on Hood's retreat from Franklin. Her husband's full name was John R.

Enlisted spring 1863, Tuscumbia AL. Pvt., Capt. Steel's Co, Jeff Forrest's Regiment. Paroled at Pond Springs, AL at the close of the war. [A note in the margin states "Jones Hamilton Olive, son of Gray W. and Julia B. (Penich) Olive of Tuscumbia, AL."]

 

O'NEAL, Alfred Moore.
Resides Florence, AL. Born 2 Sep 1844, Huntsville, Madison County, AL.
Enlisted Feb 1861, Florence, AL. 1st Lt. of Artillery, Regular Army, CSA, recruiting officer; Transferred fall 1861 to Fort Morgan, Mobile Bay, as Drill Master under Gen. Hardee, where he served until 1862; appointed by the War Department as Ordinance Officer for all fortifications in Mobile Bay and was chief of Artillery under Col. Harry Maury. Served until the 2nd Alabama Inf. disbanded in 1862 because of time limit. He then organized a battalion of Inf. under Col. George Forney, and was elected Capt. of Co A. Transferred to the Army of Northern Virginia, Feb 1864, and joined Davis' Mississippi Brigade, where he commanded the Sharp Shooters. He was in all important battles from the Wilderness until 2 Apr 1865, when badly wounded and captured. Imprisoned at Old Capital Prison at Washington, and at Johnson's Island. Released 31 Jul 1865.

Enlisted 15 Apr 1862, Staunton, Va. Pvt., Co F, 5th Virginia Inf, Stonewall Brigade. On 9 Jul 1864, he lost his left arm in the battle of Monococy, MD.

Enlisted Oct 1864, Campbellsville, TN. Pvt., Co I, 21st Tennessee. Company disbanded about 10 Jan 1865, Lincoln County, TN, Lt. Col. Withers commanding. About twenty of the regiment were captured captured and paroled near Selma, AL. The regiment, detailed near Shelbyville, TN to go south, gather up cattle, and rejoin Gen. Hood, was cut off and disbanded. Col. Hill, the commander, was not with them.
