JOHN ALLEN FLYNT

John Allen Flynt (11 Jul 1887 - 27 Feb 1914) was born in 
Lauderdale County, AL, a son of Morgan Flynt and Maggie Martin. 


His wife was Ollie (Brown) Hayes. John had a brother named Bayless Flynt.

CHARLES M FOSTER

This picture was in my Grandmother's things. Her name was Emma McKerian Foster b. 9-29-1892.  She had only one sister Florence Puryear Foster b. 1896.  Their father was Charles M. Foster and mother Lourina Puryear Foster. Emma was born in Nashville, Tenn. 

 

I have books that belonged to Dr. Charles M. Foster that had his name in them and said "My fathers books 1892 Florence Alb."  I have been trying for some time to connect Charles to George W. Foster.  Any help would be appreciated.  

GEORGE WASHINGTON FOSTER

George Washington Foster (25 Jan 1838 - 15 Jun 1914) was married to Harriet Creamer (13 Aug 1841 - 24 Dec 1912). 


They are buried in the Ray Cemetery, Lauderdale County, AL. 


Their daughter, Jennie Ellen Foster married Samuel T. Ezell. 


George Washington Foster was in the Civil War.

Harriet Creamer Foster (13 Aug 1841 - 24 Dec 1912) was the wife of George Washington Foster and daughter of James and, I believe, Jane Creamer. Harriet and her parents were born in GA.

Both are buried in Killen at Harrison Cemetery.

Ambrose David Goodwin was born 11 May 1865, Lawrence Co TN and died 13 Mar 1928, Lauderdale Co AL. This picture came from my mother's album. The man standing in the middle is Ambrose David Goodwin. He and the other men are digging a well. One of the other men is supposed to be Alfred Minton "Yank" King, born 30 Sep 1861, Lauderdale Co AL and died 9 Feb 1949, Lauderdale Co AL. If someone knows which man is Yank King, please contact me. He was a nephew of Mary H. (Hill) Forsythe.

ROBERT LEE GRIGSBY

Robert Lee Grigsby was born 3/10/1873 in Lauderdale County 
and died 2/23/1946, in Lauderdale County. In 1893 he married 
Icie Leona Crunk from Lawrence County TN. She was born 4/1878 and died 12/7/1955.

 

They had 14 children with 1 daughter, Flora, still living. Both Wesley and Robert Lee and wives are buried in Cox Cemetery, Killen, AL.

WESLEY GRIGSBY

My great great grandfather Wesley Grigsby was a confederate soldier from Lauderdale County. He was married to Lavinia Viney Richardson and had 5 children, one of whom was my great grandfather, Robert Lee 
Grigsby. After Mary's death he married Narcsis Bee and had 10 more children. Wesley died 1-10-1911. He lived in the Brush Creek area of Killen nearly all his life.

 

The 1907 Confederate Veterans Census of Lauderdale County, Alabama gives the following information: GRIGSBY, Wesley: Born 13 Sep 1847, Russellville, Franklin County, AL. Enlisted Aug 1861, Florence, AL. Pvt., Co C, 16th Alabama. Paroled spring 1865, from prison, Camp Chase, Ohio. He was discharged as an Hospital Steward.

In later life, William Guthrie drove a horse-drawn wagon, delivering Coca Cola.  Family tradition states that Will Guthrie came on

Descendants residing in Anderson, AL refer to Robert F. Guttery as "Colonel".   Actually, he was a Private in Company L, 1st Alabama Cavalry, USA, during the Civil War.  In his military pension, Robert F. Guttery claimed severe "eye disease" contracted while serving in the Civil War.

William Pinkley "Pink" Hamm was born 9 Dec 1868, died 14 Sep 1939, Lauderdale County, AL and Winsey Ann Stutts was born Aug 1869, died 29 Apr 1950, Lauderdale County, AL 


I do not know which children Winsey is holding.

Pink's parents were Thomas Buckley Hamm and Haley Canarday.

This picture is on the old card board-like material in a beveled glass frame. It has had color added and Pink's face and hands look as though they have been sketched or retouched.

Grandparents of Ollie Mae Brown ( daughter of Thomas G. Brown and Mahala? ) It also says they were from Ollies mother's side which may have been Hughes. Ollie Mae Brown Hayes Flint Haddock was my husband's Greatgrandmother. 

The older couple has been identified as William M. Hughes and his
wife Ann Martin. The young man may be their grandson, Carl Smith.
