I am researching KING's in Lauderdale Co., AL. My family was first found in the 1850 Lauderdale Co., AL. census. Catherine KING-age 44 was the head of the household with children: William-age 22, Arnold (J.J.A.)-age 20, Stephen-age 18, Emeline-age 15, Jospeh-age 14, George-age 11, and Luke-age 7. In the house next door lived Alexander KING-age 24 and his wife Lydia (McDONALD). Alexander could be a son of Catherine's. It is not known who the husband of Catherine was. However, there is a James M. KING household in the 1840 Lauderdale Co., AL census that closely resembles Catherine's in 1850. William A. KING married Nancy Jane YANCEY in 1856 in Lauderdale Co., AL. Arnold (J.J.A.) married Elizabeth Francis STUTTS in Wayne Co., TN., lived in Lawrence Co., TN. in 1860 and 1870, but was buried in Emeline Stutts Cemetery in Lauderdale Co., AL. in 1886. Emeline married Henry McDONALD, possbile son of Archibald McDONALD, in 1853 in Lauderdale Co., AL and had 3 known children: Catherine, Arche, and one more not named in the 1860 census. Luke married Sarah CURRY in Lawrence Co., TN. and later moved to Perry and Hickman Co. Nothing is known about Stephen, Joseph, and George. Can anyone help me ?

7. girl, name unknown, b. ca. 1820-23 (this could poss. be Milly HOUSE who became William's second wife?)
8. Jesse WESTMORELAND -no other info.
William WESTMORELAND's first? wife died between 1830 and 1833 and on 12 Aug 1833, Lauderdale Co., AL William married Milly HOUSE who was born 1821 (per 1850 Wayne Co., TN census, but more likely 1801 or 1811).
William sold his farm in Lauderdale Co., AL in 1836 and moved to Wayne Co.,TN where he died we think in 1854. He is probably buried in the old Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery on TN Wy 227 between Cypress Inn, TN and Railroad Church.

Calvin supposed to be "related" to John MURPHY b. 1801, d. 1863, m. Ally WELCH, and buried at Murphy's Chapel Cemetery in Lauderdale Co., AL, but can find no record to tie them together.

HILL - THIGPEN
Date: Mon, 12 Jul 1999 17:04:45 EDT
From: JerryDWebb@aol.com
The book, "A Walk Through The Past," by William L. McDonald refers to an Augustus Henry HILL on page 96. His son Fred A. HILL owned a service station and Augustus was a plumber in Florence, Lauderdale County, Alabama. Henry Augustus HILL (note the name reversal) was my ggrandfather. He married Martha Jane THIGPEN  in 1885 and they moved to Texas in the mid 1890s. He was a farmer. A second reference is of a John HILL who owned a cotton gin in Florence, Lauderdale County. I am in the cotton gin business and naturally had an immediate interest of the possibility of my early Hills being in the same business. Does any one know anything of these Hills or their families?    Thanks.         Jerry Webb/Lubbock, Texas

My name is Sally Brace. I am researching the James JACKSON family that moved  to Lauderdale County from Nashville, TN, in 1818. They built the "Forks of Cypress" plantation and raised 10 children. They had a racetrack on the plantation. James JACKSON was an immigrant from Ireland and he died in 1840. Sarah MOORE McCULLOCH JACKSON was born in 1790 in North Carolina and came from a distinguished Moore line. She lived at the "Forks" until her death in 1879.
I am interested in talking with anyone who knows about this family or who is researching this same line. James and Sally's youngest son George Moore JACKSON is my link. He married Sarah Cabell PERKINS whose sister Elizabeth PERKINS married George's brother James JACKSON. Please contact me at  sally228@aol.com

From: "Frieda Davison" fdavison@sunmuw1.MUW.Edu
Seeking information on William C. ECHARD who lived in Florence in 1900. According to the census, he was born in Oct. 1847 in Virginia. His wife was named Johnni A., born in Mar. 1859 in Mississippi. They had four children, three names known: Elna D. (or could be Edna), born in Nov. 1880 in Mississippi; Warrenton W., born in May 1883 in Louisiana; and Chalmers, born in Jan. 1885, in Mississippi. The fourth child was dead by the 1900 census and we don't know the name. This family lived in Columbus, Miss., from about 1880 to 1886; then in Birmingham in 1887; moved to Florence in the 1890s. Echard was a photographer by trade. Many of the photographs in our library's collection have his stamp on them. We would be interested in finding descendants of his or to find company records about his business. Thanks to anyone who can provide insight for us.

BRATCHER
Date: 8 Nov 1999
From: Charles A. Jones cajones@HiWAAY.net
I am looking for any data on: William BRATCHER. dob: 1 Mar. 1822   in Hall Co., Georgia Name of spouse: Martha Military records:  Co. I, 48th Nixon - TN. Era: Confederate Veterans Records. Other information: He is listed in: "Polly Warren" - Lauderdale Co., AL. Civil War Records. Residence: Hines, Lauderdale Co., AL just before and in 1907.  I think he died in AL.
I am also looking for the Original Forms location for the 1907 Confederate Questionnaires Census like the "The Tennessee Civil War Veterans Questionnaires" Vol. 1 thru 5.   Vol. 1 in the Confederate Soldiers listing does not list any BRATCHER / BRACHER, William. I understand the Confederate Veterans Questionnaires were taken from living veterans who qualified and that all kinds of family data was given.  I was hoping to find where the Alabama Questionnaires are located and get copies of the pages on William Bratcher.  He would have been in his 80's in 1907 and since he is not listed in the 1910 Census in AL or TN  and lived in the Hines area in 1907, I would assume he died and was buried nearby.  I can't find any listing on Military Cemeteries or other cemeteries in the area.  I do know that the Tenn. Confederate Service Record listed with his name in the index but can not find anything in TN.

I am searching the PARRISH families and their ties to the ROANS and DESJAZP.
Most were in Lauderdale county but some were also in Hardin County, TN. Any one searching these families please contact me. Bill Parrish
